C029858 SOVIET NKVD SENIOR COMMANDER'S UNIFORM GROUPING.
A grouping that consists of a visor cap, tunic and "Sam Browne" belt with holster of an NKVD Officer. The crusher style visor cap has a one-piece cornflower blue crown with raspberry-red piping, four-piece body with seams at each of its cardinal points, two grometed vents to each side, a brick-red wool center band, and stiffened blackened, leather visor. The cap has an adjustable black , pressed fiber, chin strap with dual adjustment sliders that is attached over each ear by brass covered, blackened, steel chinstrap buttons embossed with the star, hammer and sickle of the Soviet Red Army. The brick-red wool center band is in good condition and has a seam to the rear. The cap badge is in the shape of a five pointed star with a bronze colored border, a red enamel background with the hammer and sickle to its center. The interior retains it original 1 1/2" wide black imitation leather sweatband. The sweatband shows some light to moderate usage wear and is starting to stiffen with age. The cap is lined with a light grey silk like material that has stamped to the crown a faint makers mark. While the cap has some nap wear, usage staining and the visor is flattened and bent it is still in good condition. The 1935 Pattern tunic has a six button front closure with a lay down collar, two pleated breast pockets with scalloped button down flaps and two horizontal slash hip pockets with scalloped flaps. the six large buttons on the front and the two smaller ones to the pockets are all brass covered steel embossed with the star, hammer and sickle of the Soviet Red Army.the collar and the simulated french cuffs are pipped in raspberry-red. sewn to the collar are raspberry-red piped, brick-red collar tabs that each have two diamond shaped brass outlined red enamel rank pips. sewn to each upper sleeve is an early 1940's NKVD patch which consists of brick-red backing with a hand embroidered silver wire sword, hammer and sickle on a gilt wire oval. These rare patches were only used by elite units and personal, which included NKVD officers and Political commissars. The interior is completely lined in black silk with a horizontal slash pocket to the left breast while the sleeves are lined with a black striped white silk. Other than five hole to the left breast that used to hold screw back medals the tunic is in very good condition. The government issue "Sam Browne" belt is a mid-brown, 1 3/4" wide leather belt. The belt features, at one end, a brass buckle, with an embossed star, hammer and sickle, a brass retaining stud, and leather retaining loop. Seven centered single holes, for the retaining stud, are to the other end of the belt. Near the buckle end are two brass "D" rings, positioned to the top of the belt, approximately 10" apart and were for attaching the cross shoulder strap. The belt is age darkened and usage stained with some of the reinforcing stitching starting to seperate but is still quite flexible. The bark brown holster is for a 7.62mm Tula-Tokarev (TT) M1930 semi-automatic pistol. The holster features a fold over flap with a brass stud that mates with a leather tab with eyelet that is stitched to the back and wraps around to the front and up. Stitched to the front of the holster is a leather spare clip pocket who’s top is covered by the fold over flap. Sewn and riveted to the rear of the holster are two 3" vertical belt loops that extend slightly above the holster top to attach the holster to the belt. The holster has usage scratches and age darkening but is still flexible and in good condition. A very nice grouping from the "NKVD" (The Soviet Peoples’ Committee for State Security) who were the predecessor to the "KGB".
