C029856 BRITISH KINGS ROYAL RIFLE CORP "KRR" SHOULDER FLASH.
BACKGROUND:
During the First World War metal shoulder flashes were used to help distinguish Commonwealth troops of different regiments and countries from each other. They were changed to cloth for battle dress in the Second World War with metal flashes only used on dress uniforms. The King's Royal Rifle Corps can trace their beginnings back to the American colonies as they were raised in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia as the 62nd (Royal American) Regiment of Foot on the 25 of December 1755. Upon disbandment of 50th Regiment and 51st Regiment they were renumbered the 60th (Royal American) Regiment of Foot. On the 19 of November, 1830, they were renamed The King's Royal Rifle Corps for King William IV.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A Kings Royal Rifle Corp shoulder flash made of stamped brass, about 1 7/16" by 7/16", which consists of the letters "K R R" joined by two horizontal bars. To the reverse are two brass tabs with rectangular openings for a retaining pin. The badge is in good condition with some minor wear to the front, some age staining to the reverse and minor usage bends.
