C029656 BRITISH ROYAL FUSILIERS "RF" SHOULDER FLASH.

BACKGROUND: During the First World War metal shoulder flashes were used to help distinguish Commonwealth troops of different regiments and countries from each other. They were changed to cloth for battle dress in the Second World War with metal flashes only used on dress uniforms. The Royal Fusiliers can trace their beginning back to the formation of the Ordnance Regiment on 11 June 1686, which what raised from the tower guards as an escort for the Train of Artillery.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A Royal Fusiliers shoulder flash made of stamped brass, about 15/16" by 1/2", which consists of the letters "R F" joined by two horizontal bars. To the reverse are two brass tabs with rectangular openings for a retaining pin. The badge is in good condition with some minor wear to the front, some age darkening and staining to the reverse and a small usage bend.
