C029359 ITALIAN WWI SERVICE MEDAL.

BACKGROUND: The Italian War Medal 1915-18, was first issue in July of 1920 to all veterans of the Great War. Bars could be added to the ribbon, each one indicating a year of service at the font. The medal where struck from the bronze of captured Austrian cannons.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Circular, die-struck bronze medal is approximately 32mm in diameter. Obverse has a nice bust form image of an Italian soldier wearing a M15 Adrian pattern helmet with the inscription :GVERRA PER L’VNITA D’ITALIA 1915-1918". Reverse images a winged figured over two Italian Soldiers with the inscription "CONITA-NEL BROZNO-NEMICO". Italian style, fixed sideways medal loops. Complete with original 16cm length of striped white, green and orange ribbon.
