C029156 "AUSTRALIA" SHOULDER FLASH.
BACKGROUND:
During the First World War metal shoulder flashes were used to help distinguish Commonwealth troops of different regiments and countries from each other. They were changed to cloth for battle dress in the Second World War with metal flashes only used on dress uniforms.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A bronze shoulder flash, about 2 1/4" by 3/8", consisting of "Australia" held together by two parallel bars in a reverse arch. To the reverse are two bronze tabs with oval openings for a retaining pin. The badge is in good condition with age darkening to the reverse and the top bar is broken between the "T" and the "R".
