C029056 NEW ZEALAND ARMY SERVICE CORP "NZASC" SHOULDER FLASH.
BACKGROUND:
During the First World War metal shoulder flashes were used to help distinguish Commonwealth troops of different regiments and countries from each other. They were changed to cloth for battle dress in the Second World War with metal flashes only used on dress uniforms.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A New Zealand Army Service Corp, stamped brass, shoulder flash, about 2 1/16" by 9/16", consisting of the letters "N Z A S C" held together by two parallel bars in a reverse arch. To the reverse are two brass tabs with rectangular openings for a retaining pin. The reverse is embossed with the makers name "Jr Guant London" (J R Gaunt & Son (established 1750)). It is in excellent condition and appears to be unused with only small amount of verdigris to the inside edges.
