C028956 AUSTRALIAN SERVICE CORP "ASC" SHOULDER FLASH.
BACKGROUND:
During the First World War metal shoulder flashes were used to help distinguish Commonwealth troops of different regiments and countries from each other. They were changed to cloth for battle dress in the Second World War with metal flashes only used on dress uniforms.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: This appears to be an Australian Service Corp brass shoulder flash. A brass badge , about 1 1/2" by 3/4", consisting of the letters "A S C" joined together at the bottom in a slight upward curve. To the reverse are two brass tabs with rectangular openings for a retaining pin. The badge is in very good condition with some minor surface spotting to its reverse.
