C028856 BRITISH ROYAL ARMY SERVICE CORP "RASC" SHOULDER FLASH.
BACKGROUND:
During the First World War metal shoulder flashes were used to help distinguish Commonwealth troops of different regiments and countries from each other. They were changed to cloth for battle dress in the Second World War with metal flashes only used on dress uniforms. The Royal Army Service Corp can trace its roots back to the formation of the Corps of Waggoner's on March 3 1794. It went through many name changes until November 25 1918 when it became the Royal Army Service Corp. In 1965 it was amalgamated with Transportation and Movement Control Service of the Royal Engineers, to form Royal Corps of TransportPHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A brass badge, 1 3/8" by 1/2", which consists of two horizontal bars held together by the script "R A S C". To the reverse are two brass tabs with rectangular openings for a retaining pin. The badge is in good condition with a usage bend to one end.
