C027058 WWI CANADIAN ARTWORK POSTCARD. A light-weight, brown cardstock postcard, about 5 1/2" 3 1/2", with a drawing of a Canadian soldier, smoking a pipe, sitting on a wood box which has the text on the sides "The Montreal Gazette Tobacco Fund" and "Old Chum Tobacco and Sweet Caporal Cigarettes". Typed to the front is "F. M. Tofield, Esq., Secretary Home Guard, Montreal, Canada.". The postcard was produced by the "The Montreal Gazette Tobacco Fund" and was sent with tobacco or cigarettes to be sent back home to solicit donations to the Tobacco Fund. Other than some minor rounding to the corners and a few minor stains the postcard is in very good condition. An interesting card from a time when smoking was considered good for you.
