C026956 BRITISH ROYAL ARMOURED CORPS CAP BADGE.
BACKGROUND:
Every infantry or armored regiment had its own insignia. Cap badges were usually made of white metal, brass, copper or bi-metal. Most commonly brass and white metal were used. Officers were sometimes known to wear private purchase cap badges made of silver or silver bullion. The Royal Armoured Corps Regiments are decedents of the Cavalry Regiments of the Line who rode into battle on horseback as heavy or light horsemen and of the Royal Tank Regiment of the First World War.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A matte silver finished, stamped brass, cap badge which consists of a clenched gauntlet with a rectangular billet embossed with "RAC", surrounded by two concentric circles broken at the top and ending in barbs all surmounted with the Kings Crown. The reverse is a mirror image of the obverse which has double mounting prongs. The badge is in very good condition with a light age patina and a small spot to the top of one of the circles.
