C023858 BRITISH WWI FIELD BINOCULARS.
A pair of brass binoculars, about 3 3/16" when fully collapsed and 3 13/16" when extended, using Galilean optics, that is they used a convex objective and a concave eyepiece lens instead of prisms to create an upright image. The eyepiece lens is about 7/8" in diameter while the objective lens is about 1 7/8" in diameter. The binoculars were originally black but have been crudely painted olive-drab. Stamped to the cross piece between the eyepieces is "3792", "V.F. 2506" and a "broad arrow". The binoculars have a couple of small chips to the eyepieces but retain about 75-80% of their finish with wear to the highlights and the optics are still clear.
