C023757 NORWEGIAN ARMY EM'S M12 WINTER TUNIC.
BACKGROUND:
The Norwegian grey-green uniform was originally introduced in 1912 and was the same for all ranks. There were three basic tunics, a standard service tunic, a summer service tunic and a winter service tunic. The winter service tunic was looser fitting than the others to allow the wearing of layers of clothes underneath and had its pouch pockets on the outside.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A grey-green, single breasted, heavy rough cotton, winter tunic with a vertical six button over lapping French fly closure, a double hook and eye closure at the neck and a lay down collar. The tunic has four non-pleated patch pockets with scalloped flaps with hidden button closures. The sleeves have simulated French cuffs that along with the collar are piped in red. The interior is lined with a heavy white cotton while the sleeves are lined with white and blue patterned cotton. There is a horizontal slash pocket to the interior right breast with a oval pouch pocket with a vertical opening, made from similar material as the tunic just above it and a small horizontal slash pocket to the lower right interior that was possibly for a field dressing. There are a couple of indecipherable stamps to the interior just below the breast pocket. All the buttons are made from a light brown and green mottled bakelite and appear to have their original stitching. Although there is light to moderate age soiling to the interior and the collar the tunic is in very good condition with no apparent repairs.
