C023458 WWI BRITISH, "ROYAL CORPS OF SIGNALS" BRASS SHOULDER FLASH.
BACKGROUND:
Every infantry or armored regiment had its own insignia. During the First World War metal shoulder flashes were used to help distinguish Commonwealth troops of different regiments and countries from each other. They were changed to cloth for battle dress in the Second World War with metal flashes only used on dress uniforms.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A stamped brass shoulder flash, about 1 1/4" by 1 3/4", consisting of a pair of arched bars with the text "Royal Corps" above a pair of horizontal bars with the text "Of", below which is a pair of inverted arched bars with the text "Signals". To the reverse are two brass tabs with rectangular openings and a brass cotter retaining pin. Other than a very light overall age patina and some remnants of cleaner to the recesses the flash is in very good condition.
