C022958 WWI CANADIAN "26 BATTALION" COLLAR DOG.

BACKGROUND: The "New Brunswick Battalion" was raised under the authority of G.O. 36 on the 15th of March, 1915. Mobilized in Saint John, New Brunswick, the battalion set sail on the 13th of June, 1915, under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel R. Innes with the strength of 42 officers and 1108 other ranks. The battalion was demobilized on the 15th of September, 1920.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A stamped browning copper collar dog, about 1 1/8" by 1 1/8", in the shape of a maple leaf with the numeral "26" to the center below which is a scroll with the inscription "New Brunswick Battalion" and above is an arched plaque with "Canada" inscribed all surmounted by a King’s Crown. The reverse is a mirror image of the obverse with dual soldered copper mounting prongs. Other than a slight usage bend to the center and some light verdigris to the reverse the badge is in very good condition retaining about 90% of its browning with some minor wear to the highlights.
