C022758 WWI CANADIAN "132 BATTALION" COLLAR DOG.

BACKGROUND: The "North Shore Battalion" was raised under the authority of G.O. 151 on the 22nd of December, 1915. Mobilized in Chatham, New Brunswick, the battalion set sail on the 26th of October, 1916, under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel G.W. Mersereau with the strength of 32 officers and 809 other ranks. The battalion was demobilized on the 15th of September, 1920.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A stamped blackened brass collar dog, about 1 1/8" by 1 1/8", in the shape of a maple leaf with a "132" to the center of a double oval with the inscription "North Shore Battalion New Brunswick", above a scroll with the inscription "Canada" all surmounted by a King’s Crown above a scroll with "Overseas" inscribed to it. The reverse is a mirror image of the obverse with dual soldered brass mounting prongs. Other than a slight bend to the mounting prongs and some minor wear to the highlights the badge is in good condition.
