C022258 BRITISH "REST CENTER SERVICE" BADGE.
BACKGROUND:
Rest Center Service was part of the British Governments effort to help bombed-out and displaced families from the London "Blitz" cope and survive the war. The local volunteers would work 24 hours on and 24 hours off to help tend to the people by supplying food and shelter, usually in evacuated schools as the students had been moved to the country for their safety.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A 1" diameter stamped, gold colored, steel alloy badge with a pin back device which consist of "RSC" intertwined to the center on a background of blue enamel surrounded by a ring of white enamel with the text "Rest Center Service". The enamel fills the recesses to the obverse with the reverse showing the stamped pattern. The badge is in very good condition with only some age soiling to the reverse and some age dulling to the enamel on the obverse.
