C022158 TWO TROPICAL BRITISH RAF, "V.R." SHOULDER INSIGNIA.
BACKGROUND:
Every infantry or armoured regiment had its own insignia. The Eagle of the R.A.F. was worn on both upper sleeves by all those below the rank of Warrant Officer 1st Class and airmen of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve wore a "V.R." below it. The Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve served as an entry point for the much needed aircrew and pilots during the Second World War.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A piece of khaki cloth with a light woven khaki backing, about 2" by 1 5/8", with a red stitched horizontal line through the middle with the text "V.R.", in red machine embroidery, above and below. This is actually two insignia that have not been separated yet. The flash is in excellent unused condition with a few loose ends to it’s unfinished sides.
