C022058 TWO BRITISH "BUFFS" (Royal East Kent Regiment) SHOULDER FLASHES.

BACKGROUND: Every infantry or armoured regiment had its own insignia. The Buffs can trace their formation back to Thomas Morgan's Company which was formed for service in Holland. In 1665 they were called upon to renounce their allegiance to England and swear allegiance to Holland. Most of the men refused and were discharged from service and would have faced destitution in holland if it hadn’t been for the English Ambassador, who at his own expense had them returned to England where they were formed into The Holland Regiment. By 1782 they became known as "The Buffs" (East Kent Regiment) for the color of the uniform that they wore.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Two slightly arch shaped red felt patches, about 3 1/8" by 7/8", with the buff colored machine embroidered text "Buffs". The flashes are still in good condition with some light nap wear and minor to light age soiling.
