C021858 TWO BRITISH "COMMANDO" SHOULDER FLASHES.
BACKGROUND:
Every infantry or armoured regiment had its own insignia. After the evacuation of most of the British Expeditionary Force at Dunkirk, Sir Winston Churchill instructed the military to form a "butcher and bolt" raiding force to continue the war against Nazi Germany. The Commandos were first formed in June, 1940, by the Army, as a well armed, Non-regimental force that employed irregular and unconventional tactics to reconnoiter, disrupt, and assault the Germans in Europe.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A pair of arch shaped, dark blue felt flashes, about 3 5/8" by 7/8", with the text "Commando" machine embroidered in red. Other than some spots of white residue to the reverse and one flash having a small hole in it both flashes are in good condition.
