PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: In the 1950's the Berliet truck company of France began to produce some specialized heavy trucks for oil exploration in the Sahara, with the 1957 6x6 Berliet Sahara Pipe-Layer being the largest. A die cast scale model of the 6x6 Berliet, about 6 3/4" long by 2 5/8" high, with a sand colored body, a white roof and plastic windows. The treaded rubber tires on white plastic rims are all intact altough the rear most axle is bent. Its crane is still fully operational. Embossed to the bottom of the frame is the text "Dinky", "Supertoys", "Berlet", "G B O ", "Made in", "France", and "Meccano". It comes with the 7 1/4" by 3 3/8" by 3" lid to the original box which has a picture of the toy on the top and various text including to the ends the name and model number, "Dinky Supertoys", "888", Camion Petrolier", "Saharien", ""GBO" Berliet", "Avec Ch vre". The box lid is in good condition with part of one end label torn off, some scuffing to the edges and split forming in one corner. The truck is in good condition retaining most of its original paint, all its plastic windows with some soiling to the recesses of the deck and roof and the bent axle. Still a nice example of a rare 1960-66 made French Dinky Supertoy.
