C021259 ITALIAN BELT, CROSS STRAP, AMMO POUCH & BAYONET FROG.
BACKGROUND:
In March 1919 Benito Mussolini established the, Fascio di Combattimento, (Union of Combatants), political party in Milan and fascism was born in Italy and following the infamous "March on Rome", on October 28TH 1922 Mussolini became the supreme leader of the country. On May 22ND 1939 Mussolini’s Italy and Hitler’s Germany signed the "Pact of Steel" linking their countries destinies together in the upcoming war. As with the other nations individuals serving in the Italian armed forces were issued cartridge belt sets in order to carry extra ammunition.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A medium grey, WWII, leather belt, 42" by1 1/4", with a , blackened steel, double claw buckle at one end and a sewn on tab at the other. At the buckle end of the belt are ten adjustment holes that allow the belt to be shortened by moving the buckle. The belt is threaded through one side of the buckle and is held in place by one claw. The sewn on tab has two adjustment holes. The belt shows some minor age cracking but retains most of its coloring and the buckle retains all its blackening. The shoulder strap is about 42" by 3/4" made of green/gray colored leather with adjustable, blackened steel, belt hooks at either end. There is minor age cracking to the colored surface of the belt though the leather is still quite flexible. One hook retains all its blackening while the other hook shows signs of wear possibly coming from an older strap. A dual pocket, medium green/grey leather, WWII, ammunition pouch, each pocket having a top fold-over flap to which is rivetted a strap with a stud hole which mates with the, blackened steel, stud to the bottom of each pouch. Each pouch is approximately 3" x 2 1/4" x 3 1/4". To the upper center of their single-piece reverse is rivetted a short tab with a "D" ring. Rivetted to the reverse of each pouch are vertical belt loops. The pouch is in excellent condition showing no wear and is in unused condition. A M91, two-piece, medium green/grey leather bayonet frog which flares out at its center, tapers and is sewn in a folded-back position to create a belt loop to its top, and tapers again to its bottom where an open-ended "pocket," with a central hole for the scabbard lug, is sewn. The remainder of the reverse is of rough leather. There is minor runner marks where the bayonet scabbard has been inserted but it retains about 95% of it finish. Except for some wear to one hook on the shoulder strap and some minor runner marks on the frog this grouping is in almost unused condition.
