C021162 TAM O’SHANTER.

BACKGROUND: The Tam O’Shanter is named from a poem by Robert Burns. Made from wool with a pompom (toorie) to the center with a crown twice the diameter of the head. Originally, it was made from blue wool (a.k.a. Blue Bonnets) but because of a lack of dyes that were available, different colors can be seen.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A navy blue wool with a red toorie and a diced band of red, white and nay blue. A black silk rosette sits to the left side while a small black bow sits to the back. There are pin holes present in the material of the silk rosette that indicates a cap badge has been removed. No makers marks are present. Since no cap badge is present it is hard to determine which regiment wore this, but it is known that the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders had.
