C019856 CANADIAN ISSUE MALLET.

BACKGROUND: Wood mallets were normally used to hammer in tent pegs and stakes.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A Canadian marked wooden mallet constructed from two pieces, a head and a handle. The head is made of a single piece of turned hardwood, 6 3/4" long by 3 11/16" in diameter, with the lathe markings still visible to either end. Turned around the head are four lines, that seem to have been used, to mark the center as a guide for the oval hole that is cut through for the handle. The handle is 19 7/8" long, flattened on two sides, narrowing a bit in the center for grip before widening back out like a wedge to hold the head on. Stamped into the head is a "c-broad arrow" while the shaft is stamped with a "c-broad arrow" and the date "1916". The mallet has an overall age darkened soiling and the only real damage are some shallow holes to one end where it appears some one has hit it against a nail tip. A very nice example of a rare tool.
