C016962 PRE WWII "TRANSVAAL 8TH INF. SCOTTISH" COLLAR DOG.
BACKGROUND
: The Transvaal Infantry was established after the Second Anglo-Boer war in 1902. It consisted originally of volunteer Scottish units that found in the war and who chose to remain in the colony. The 8th cap badge was worn from 1921 to present.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A Scottish thistle on a scroll with the motto "Alba nam Buadh" or "Well done Scotland" or "Scotland Home of the Virtues." It is surrounded by a belt and buckle bearing "Transvaal 8th Inf. Scottish" to the perimeter. This background is the Star of the Order of the Thistle. It measures approximately 3.5cm x 3.5cm where the reverse is a mirror image of the front with two lugs, but no cotter pin. The brass had darkened with age, but this enhances all of the nice detail.
