C016759 ROYAL SCOTS REGIMENT EM/NCO'S TAM O'SHANTER.

BACKGROUND: The Balmoral Bonnet, which is known as the Tam o'Shanter, originated in 1915, as a replacement for the Glengarry, to be worn by Scottish troops in combat. 

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A khaki wool bonnet comprised of a crown with a tan colored wool Touri (pom-pom) to its center, a body with seams to each side and the rear, and a centerband with a normally adjustable opening to its rear. The rear opening has two alloy grommets to an extended tab to one side. The interior is lined in an olive-drab cloth with a lightly padded quilted stitching to the crown. Interior has British WD markings with the "broad arrow". In front of the left seam of the body is a two piece silver and gilt colored alloy cap badge for The Royal Scotts. The badge has two retaining prongs that pass though a 2 1/2" square piece of tartan cloth used as backing before passing through the cap to the interior where it is fixed by a horizontal cotter pin. The bonnet is in good condition with light to moderate nap wear while the cap badge is still very bright.
