C016257 BRITISH COMBAT ENGINEER'S/PIONEER SLEEVE BADGE.
BACKGROUND:
A wide variety of badges, both official and unofficial, were worn by Commonwealth soldiers throughout the war. Where they were worn on the uniform signified what they were for. Tradesman badges were worn on the right forearm, skill at arms badges on the left forearm and instructors on the arm towards the center or above the stripes for a sergeant but below the rank for a warrant officer.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A round badge, about 1 1/2" in diameter, of cream colored machine embroidered crossed hatchets on a khaki cloth background. It has a loose woven black cloth backing to the reverse with some remnants of white paper stuck to it. Other than the remnants on the back, the badge is in very good condition.
