C014560 ITALIAN PIONEER’S TUNIC. A private purchase, lined, 1933 pattern, grey/green wool/rayon blend tunic with a gabardine weave. The tunic features four exterior pockets, a four-button single-breasted front closure, an open neck, lay-down collar and upswept peak lapels. The larger pioneer buttons (eagle with crossed axes) to the front closure, and the smaller buttons to the pockets and shoulder straps, are two piece brass and all appear to have their original stitching. The pleated patch breast and hip pockets each have straight-edged button-down flaps. No collar tabs. The large, pointed tip, sewn-on shoulder boards are of the same material as the tunic and are piped in green wool. A vertical tail skirt vent is to the reverse. The interior is fully lined in light grey rayon and has decoratively reinforced stitching to the shoulders and chest panels. There are a few sections of lining material missing from inside left, but of course would not be visible when the tunic is buttoned up. To the interior collar is a machine woven tailor’s label "G.For.", "S.p.A. Lanifici RIVETTI". A vertical slash pocket is to the interior left breast. Light age soiling and numerous small picks to the exterior material, particularly the collar, constitute the only damage. Tunic roughly a size 40" chest.
