C013758 SWISS ARMY OFFICER'S KEPI & STORAGE CASE. A kepi with a field grey felt crown and body, and simulated leather visor. The upper 2 1/2" of the kepi body is piped in black along the top, the bottom and at each cardinal point. Below that are two gold tress rank bands (First Lieutenant) and a non-adjustable black leather chin strap with a gold colored, single prong buckle to its center. The chin strap is affixed to either side by a gold colored button, with the Swiss Cross to its center. The black simulated leather visor has a blackened band stitched along its edge while its underside is a black crosshatched pattern. The visor is in good condition with some minor wear to its edge. To the interior is a brown leather sweatband, which has an adjustment tape threaded though it and tied at the rear. The interior is lined with a copper-grey colored silk like material. Both the sweatband and the liner exhibit signs of usage and sweat staining. The cardboard storage case is in the shape of a rectangle with curved corners, about 12 1/2" long by 8 1/2" wide by 8 1/4" high, with a 1 1/2" tall removable lid. The walls and lid of the box are covered with a simulated black leather. To the top of the lid is a partial paper label and what appears to be a paper shipping label. To one end of the case , printed in gold letters, is the manufacturer "Helbling & Co.", and address "Ostschweiz. Uniformen - Fabrik"(East Switzerland. Uniform - factory) and the town "Rapperswil". To the inside of the case is a small round sticker that has the text "Cartonnage", "A-G", "Zurich". The cases bottom and the lid are both bowing in, one side is cracked close to the upper edge, the lid is starting to separate at its edge seam and the simulated leather covering is starting to flake off the edges but the case is still solid and in not bad condition for its age. The kepi is in good condition with some minor usage soiling and a few moth nips to the lower reverse of the body. A nice turn of the century set.
