C013658 BRITISH PRE-WWI CARTRIDGE POUCH. This appears to be a pre-revolutionary war cartridge pouch that would have carried around nine pre-made cartridges in a wood insert that is not with the pouch. The black leather pouch with fold over flap measures about 2 1/2" by 5 3/8" by 1". The scalloped fold over flap, with rough side out, has a 2" long leather tab with an eyelet that mates with an alloy stud to the bottom. The front of the flap has two holes through which was mounted an oval plate, the outline of which can still be seen in the leather. Under the flap to the front of the pouch is etched a rectangle with two lines from corner to corner, crossing in the center to create four triangular areas to which have been stamped "broad arrows". To either side of the pouch are alloy mounts with rings for a strap. The interior is lined with a mild steel box which is held in place by the stud and the side mounts. Although the leather has stiffened with age, white deposits can be seen in the recesses of the flap and the stitching is starting to separate in one spot the pouch is in remarkable condition for its age.
