C012156 WWI CANADIAN WAR ATLAS MAGAZINE. A 10 3/8" x 13 3/4", softcover, sixteen page "War Atlas," as is indicated to its cover beneath the image of soldiers from the various belligerent nations fighting with flags and swords. Immediately beneath the title is the elucidation, "containing Detailed Maps of the Nations," "Pertinent Statistics of the Contending powers," and "Analysis of Conditions Leading Up to the Present Struggle." The publisher’s name and address is to the base of the cover. To the inside of the front cover is a chart of "Air Line Distance Between Principal Cities of Europe," and the first page features a repetition of much of what is seen to the cover, but also includes a "1914" date. The twelve color maps which follow, all copyrighted by Rand, McNally & Co., begin with the "World," after which is the "German Empire," then a double-page spread of "Europe," followed by "Austria-Hungary," "Roumania, Servia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Albania and Turkey in Europe," a double-page spread of "France," then "Russia In Europe," "Italy," the "British Isles," the "Netherlands Belgium and Luxembourg," and, finally, "Asia." Pages fifteen and sixteen are concerned with the "Fighting Strength and Resources of Contending Nations," and to the inside of the back cover is an essay entitled, "The European Conflict and Conditions that Brought it About." To the back cover is an oblique map of Europe, in color and including topographical features. Both the front and back covers of the atlas are moderately soiled, and the base of the front cover has edge wear to it. The bases of the first four interior pages are more lightly edge worn, and all of the pages are lightly age yellowed.
