C009858 ESTONIAN FIRE POLICE OFFICER'S M36 GREATCOAT. A nice quality, heavy, M1936, black wool construction, double breasted style, full length, greatcoat with a lay down collar piped in grey. The greatcoat features dual, vertical, parallel, rows of six front closure buttons with corresponding button holes on the left and right front panels. The greatcoat has small fold back lapels and a single metal hook and eye at the neck. There are two, horizontal slash, front, hip pockets with straight edge flaps situated at the waistline. The straight cut sleeves have simulated French cuffs which are piped in grey at the upper edge. The reverse of the greatcoat has a horizontal, half waist belt with two retaining buttons at the waistline and a central, 16" long, vertical tail skirt vent with a three button closure. To the shoulders are sewn in shoulder boards, piped in grey, with retaining buttons, each with a 1 1/4" diameter, gilt, alloy badge, of a wreath with a fireman’s helmet superimposed over a pair of crossed fire axes to its center and two gilt rank pips. The coat has a large lay down cloth collar with zig-zag reinforcement stitching to the reverse. Sewn to each side of the collar are, 1 1/2" by 2 3/4", parallelogram shaped, grey collar tabs which have tiny holes though them, in geometrically opposite patterns, that would indicate that some sort of insignia was attached to them at one time. The interior of the coat is fully lined with ribbed black cotton twill and a purple-grey ribbed cotton to the sleeves. All of the buttons are gilt alloy capped, steel, shank buttons which are embossed with a wreath, to whose center is a, fireman’s helmet superimposed over a pair of crossed fire axes, all surmounted by a shield with three lions passant guardant (Estonian Shield). The greatcoat is in very good condition with small areas of minor nap wear and minor age and usage toning. The greatcoat is roughly size 40" chest.
