C007664 BRITISH WWII LIEUTENANT 9TH PARACHUTE BATTALION DRILL SERVICE DRESS GROUPING.

This group is made up of the Service Dress, Shirt and Shorts.

1. A khaki cotton service dress with a four brass Devonshire Regimental buttons front and lay down collar with two pleated breast pockets, two large hip pockets and shoulder straps. Two snaps are situated to each corner of the breast pockets to keep them flat. All buttons represent the Devonshire Regiment that have wire loop attachments to the back that keep them in place, but also make it easy to remove for cleaning of the uniform. To each shoulder are two pips with a red shoulder strap loop that represents the 9th Parachute Battalion. A green lanyard is passed through the left loop; under the arm and attached to the left breast pocket. A four place medal bar is also above the left breast pocket that represents the British Imperial Service Order Medal, Military Medal, British War Medal 1914-1920 and the Victory Medal 1914-1918. This example has long sleeves, but have been rolled up. A cloth belt, suspended from belt loops completes this tunic that has a brass, double prong buckle, also with snaps to keep the end flat. The initials "CL" is handwritten to the inside collar. The chest measures approximately 46". The tunic shows obvious wear and usage, especially to the collar area, but overall a nice used example.

2. The long sleeve shirt, made from a light khaki colored cotton has a six button front with two breast pockets with a single flap and button closure. The shoulder straps, also with a button closure, has four pre-formed holes with reinforced sewn edges that allow for the placement of rank pips. The shirt is broad arrow marked with "45" to the inside, as well as, having a sewn tag "Van Heusen- Made in England" and stamped in black ink "E.P. Robey." The chest measures 45". A nice clean example.

3. A pair of shorts, made of the same material as the shirt, has two slash pockets to the hips; one rear slash pocket with button; four button fly; two buttons at the waist with tab and a pleated front. To each side of the waist are also side adjustments. The waist measures approximately 32" and measure 16.5" long from under the waistband. They are unlined, but are broad arrow stamped with "45." They are also marked as "Checked 23.7.44." The tag to the reverse is stamped "E.P. Robey." A nice example that is in very nice condition.
