C007363 WWII BRITISH "THE LANCASHIRE FUSILIERS" CAP BADGE.
BACKGROUND
: The fusiliers can trace it’s roots back to 1668 as "Peyton’s Regiment of Foot" and eventually saw the name change to "The Lancashire Fusiliers" in 1881. They have a long battle history from The Glorious Revolution under King William III, The Second Boer War and both World Wars. During the First World War, the Lancashire Fusiliers raised thirty battalions and was represented in every campaign of the war. During the Second World War, they raised seventeen battalions.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A stamped, two piece cap badge featuring a flaming bomb with "Egypt" and the profile of the Sphinx surrounded by laurel wreath with "The Lancashire Fusiliers" inscribed on the ribbon below. It measures approximately 4.5cm x 5cm with a brass slider attached. The reverse is a mirror image of the front. Shows the age with some verdigris to the brass, but overall nice condition.
