C007063 BRITISH "ROYAL FUSILIERS" CAP BADGE.
BACKGROUND
: Formed as a fusilier regiment in 1685 from two companies of the Tower of London guard and was originally known as the "Ordnance Regiment." In 1751, the regiment became the 7th Regiment of Foot (Royal Fusiliers) until 1881 when regimental numbers were abolished under the Chiders Reform and therefore became known as the Royal Fusiliers.PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A stamped brass "flaming bomb" with the White Rose of Yorkshire surrounded by the Order of the Garter’s motto "Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense" or "Evil to him that Evil Thinks." A Kings Crown is placed at the top of the body intersecting at the "flame." It measures approximately 5.5cm x 4cm with a brass slider present on the reverse. The reverse is a mirror image of the front. The metal shows darkening due to age, but overall is in nice condition.
