C003669 RUSSIAN TELOGREIKA JACKET.

The telogreika, issued since 1941 consisted of a jacket and trouser, that was lined in cotton wool that was sewn into vertical seams or "quilted." The black telogreika was usually worn by the tank crews. This black jacket has a five metal button front that are positioned further across the chest leaving a larger extension. These buttons mate with cloth loops on the opposite panel. The buttons to the cuffs are missing. A cloth "belt" is affixed to the reverse giving the jacket a snugger fit. The chest measures approximately 40". The buttons to the front show heavy oxidation, but are still attached by the original threads. No markings could be found. WW2 or 1950's.. I'm not sure. Note The many German prisoners of war in Russian camps had no winter clothing. The Russians gave the Germans a black dyed Telogreika Jacket. Black so they would not be mistaken for Russian Soldiers.  Those Germans who survived the Russian POW Camps came home with these Black Telogreikas still in.  (Thank you Patrick)
