C044073 U.S.M.C. POCKET KNIFE.

BACKGROUND: This pocket knife is known as the demo knife, model number 1763 for the USMC. There were also USN and US demo knives, which are the exact same model, except for the engraving on the top. The U.S. Army refers to this knife as the; U.S. Military knife Mil-K-818D, or, Knife pocket NSN 5110-00-162-2205. The earliest documented use of these knife is from 1945. Little is known since they were not widely used until later on.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: This is a stainless steel knife, that when folded, measures approximately 9.5cm long with a cross hatch design to both the front and rear plate of the body. "U.S.M.C." is engraved to the one side. It contains a spear blade, flathead screwdriver, can opener, bottle opener and punch, lanyard bail. Two of the items (can opener and punch) cannot be lifted out of the housing. No makers mark can be found, but is probably there at one time. The exterior is in good condition, while the interior extensions have quite a bit of surface spotting.
