L000460 OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN THE TECHNICAL BRANCH OF THE AIR-FORCE MEDALLION. (Medaille für Ausgezeichnete Leistungen im Technischen Dienst der Luftwaffe)
BACKGROUND: The Outstanding Achievement in the Technical Branch of the Air-Force Medallion was introduced by Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring in July 1940 for award to personnel who contributed outstanding achievements to the technical development of the Luftwaffe. The Technical branch of the Luftwaffe was under command of the RLM, Reichsluftfahrtministerium, (National Air Ministry), and was responsible for all technical developments within the Luftwaffe.
BACKGROUND: Roughly, 3" diameter, 1/8" thick, die struck, alloy construction, non-portable medallion with a nickel/silver plated finish. The obverse of the medallion features an embossed, Luftwaffe style eagle in flight, clutching a canted swastika in one talon, encompassed by the embossed, Latin script, "Für Ausgezeichnete Leistungen im Technischen Dienst der Luftwaffe", (For Outstanding Achievements in the Technical Service of the Air Force). The reverse of the medallion features the embossed profile of Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring, encompassed by the embossed, Latin script, "Der Oberbefehlshaber Der Luftwaffe Reichsmarschall Göring", (The Commander-in Chief of the Air-Force Reichsmarschall Göring). The medallion retains about 80% of its age dulled nickel/silver plated finish with small spots of wear to the base alloy. The medallion also has some white surface residue, primarily around the script that appears to be a cleaning solution of some type.
