BACKGROUND: The Harbor pilots flag was flown on Kriegsmarine vessels to indicate that the ship had a qualified harbor pilot aboard. Harbor pilots were required while bringing a ship into port.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: 56" x 94", white, loosely woven cotton flag with central printed pattern of the National Flag. 33" x 70" red field with a 26" diameter white circular field with black swastika. Bunting end has been removed and the fly end shows some fraying. Flag shows numerous small holes and stainage, but is to be expected from an example like this that actually saw service. Hard example to find.
