K17354 EM/NCO'S TROPICAL M41/OVERSEAS CAP EAGLE. (Mützen Adler)
BACKGROUND: The Kriegsmarine adopted wear of the new national eagle on the front of the headgear and the right breast of the uniform on March 24TH 1934. The Kriegsmarine’s version of the national eagle was identical to the army version except for the coloration with the army utilizing silver, white and grey eagles while the Kriegsmarine utilized golden yellow eagles. Of Note: The only exceptions in the coloration of the Kriegsmarine cap eagles was that personnel serving in the Administrative branch utilized a silver eagle while EM/NCO’s wore a cornflower blue eagle on the white overseas caps. The Kriegsmarine originally used white uniforms and headgear as their tropical dress but they also developed two separate brown tropical uniforms, with one being introduced before the outbreak of the war and the second one during the war. The eagles worn on the brown tropical headgear were issued on a tan base.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: French production, machine woven national eagle with out-stretched wings, in golden yellow rayon threads on a woven tan rayon base. The eagles wingspan is roughly, 2 1/4" from tip to tip. The eagle is in still on its original tan rayon factory roll and is in overall excellent, unissued condition with minimal age toning.
