K012257 "DIE KRIEGSMARINE", MAGAZINE. (Magazin)

BACKGROUND: "Die Kriegsmarine" magazine was the official magazine of the German Navy during WWII and was published twice monthly in Berlin by the Marine-Verlag firm with the assistance of the OKM, Oberkommandos der Marine, (High Command of the Navy).

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Roughly, 13" x 9 1/2", twelve page magazine with the dated heading, "Zweites Aprilheft 1944", (Second Edition of April 1944). The front cover features a close-up, black and white photograph of a young sailor wearing a navy blue visor cap and a protective leather jacket, with the caption, "Ein Schnellboot-Kommandant {Obersteuermann}), (A Torpedo Boat Commander {Senior Helmsmen/Coxswain}). The magazine contains eight assorted articles, seventeen photographs and illustrations and numerous period advertisements. The articles include, "Großadmiral Raeder 50 Jahre Soldat", (Grand Admiral Raeder 50 years as a Soldier), "Die geopolitisch-strategische Bedeutung des Indischen Ozeans", (The Geo-political strategic meaning of the Indian Ocean), and, "Jugend und Seefahrt", (Youth and Sea Voyage), among others. The photographs and illustrations reinforce the text. The magazine is in overall good condition with light age yellowing, a couple of small tears, and some minor fraying but all the pages are intact.
