J08951 (IJA) TENT PEG & GUIDE ROPE. A wooden tent peg and coiled rope, the peg being 10 1/4" tall, 1 1/8" at its widest point, and 3/8" thick. Three characters from the "Iroha" syllabary, in black, are to one side of the peg, which would translate as "Ki-ra-mu," perhaps the original owner’s name. Three other indistinguishable characters, painted on in white, are also to this side. Three black characters are to the other side, which may translate as "Ha-ya-se." A small chip is off the top of the peg, and its other, pointed, end is blunted. The rope, whose ends are bound with thread, must be in excess of 80" long. It seems to have been unused.
