J03352 (IJN) SUBMARINER'S BADGE. A very attractive, dark alloy badge (most likely tombak) in the form of a five-lobed cherry blossom, approximately 1 3/8" in diameter, upon which is inlaid a silver-colored (most likely nickel-silver plated alloy) submarine with stylized waves along its hull. The waves have copper-colored articulations to their recesses. To its otherwise featureless reverse is soldered a vertical pin and hinge assembly, with a corresponding catch to its base. Very light surface scratching and edge wear may be seen, and the inlaid submarine has the finish to its forward deck noticeably worn. Tadao Nakata, in his book, "Imperial Japanese Army and Navy Uniforms & Equipment," refers to this as a sub school excellence badge.
