J03053 (IJA) NCO'S SWORD BELT. A brown leather belt, 1 3/8" wide, with a 41 1/4" overall length. To one end is a nickel-silver plated alloy buckle, with a similarly plated single metal claw, behind which is a leather flap (to prevent wear to the uniform), sewn to the belt with decorative stitching. Alongside of the buckle are two floating, vertical leather retaining loops, to one of which is sewn a horizontal, roughly oval-shaped flap, 5 1/4" long. The belt is actually divided into two sections, the buckled end being 12" long, the other end 28 1/2", joined by a nickel-silver plated, vertical metal rectangle, from whose lower end projects a bar for the sword hanger. A flap of leather descends from either side of this rectangular device, and is positioned beneath and behind the sword hanger bar. Where the two sections of belt wrap around either side of the rectangle they are decoratively stitched into place. Another floating, vertical leather retaining loop is to the longer section of the belt, and there are seven buckling holes near its rounded end. Unmarked. Light chafe wear and cracking is evident to the leather, and the nickel-silver finish to the rectangle which joins its two sections has worn and exhibits moderate surface spotting. The belt is otherwise intact and still supple.
