J03052 (IJA) MOSQUITO HEAD NET.
A head covering, comprised of four triangular-shaped panels of medium green netting, which meet at their points, forming a dome, beneath which are sewn three rectangular panels of the same material, with two rectangular panels of olive drab colored cotton sewn to the base. A tunnel loop with a drawstring is sewn along the bottom edge of the cotton base. The head net is approximately 23 1/2" from the apex of its crown to the tunnel loop along its base, with the base itself being 17" across. Ink stamped to the interior of the base, alongside its drawstring, is a horizontal rectangle with a "Showa 18" (1943) date to it, underneath of which is a vertical rectangle with four kanji characters within it. Hand written to the exterior, also alongside its drawstring, are four vertically-arranged kanji characters, which have faded to the point of being mostly indistinguishable. The cotton portion of the head net is fully intact, with only light age soiling. The netting to the rectangular panels, however, have five obvious holes to them, and a piece of string has been bound around a section where another, perhaps larger, hole may be.GRADE ***1/4 PRICE $72.00
