J02151 (IJN) CASED AMPERAGE METER.
A meter whose 10 1/4" x 7 1/4" x 5 1/4" wooden case has rubber "feet" to each of its four base corners, as well as each of its four reverse corners. Its 1 3/4" lid is fixed by two aluminum hinges to its reverse, one of which missing its upper half as a section of the wood has split away, and an aluminum latch to its front. Beneath the latch is a horizontal leather handle, screwed at either end through vertical aluminum collars. A blackened alloy vent is screwed to the lower section of one end, and a similar one covers two-thirds of the base. Over the remaining third of the base is screwed a blackened metal plate with two faint and indistinct stamped white logos to it. To the inside of the lid is screwed an alloy plate with an electronic schematic engraved to it, above which is a horizontal line of kanji characters, and six lines are below it. Three equidistant circular depressions may be seen to the wood above the plate, which accommodate three of the four raised knobs to the meter itself. The meter is comprised of two blackened alloy plates, one covering one-third of the surface, the other the other two-thirds. The smaller section has four raised brass columns, each with a horizontal hole penetrating their sides, and a threaded vertical hole into which are screwed posts surmounted by disks. The leftmost column, which is smaller than the others, has a plate to its base upon which is engraved "50A." "100A," "200A" and a combined "+" and "-" symbol is engraved to the remaining three plates to the columns proceeding to the right of the aforementioned. A short, threaded post, also with "50A" to its base plate, is beneath and between the first two. The larger section has "YEW" within a horizontal rectangle embossed to its center, above which is an arched window. Beneath the glass is a repetition of "YEW" printed above a scale with three grades, each starting at zero, the uppermost ending at two hundred, that under it at one hundred, and the lowest at fifty. The lower numbers are printed in red. A cut-out arch is underneath the scale, revealing the mirrored surface beneath, over which the indicator needle may be easily read. Beneath the mirrored arch is the letter "A" with an infinity symbol beneath it, and lines of Roman numerals mixed with kanji characters beneath that. Among these is a "1000 V" indication, a naval anchor, and a "Showa era 19 year 2 month" date; being February of 1944. "34" is impressed to the wood along the edge beneath this larger section. The exterior of the case is moderately surface scratched, with cracking to its finish and edge wear, in addition to the previously mentioned section missing from the reverse of its lid. Its rubber "feet" all exhibit cracking, but are otherwise intact. The leather strap to the forward edge of the case is significantly worn, with noticeable splits, but is still functionally intact. The brass columns to the meter itself are age darkened. The meter appears to be functional. Unique.GRADE *** PRICE $82.00
