J01851 (IJN) CASED OHM METER.
A cased meter, with its testing cables, inspection tag, and several loose components. Among the loose components are two pressed cardboard pieces, each with alloy collars to either side of a central, circular perforation, across which is a thin wire. The remaining loose components, which are most likely fuses, consist of five small glass vials, with wires to their interiors, and alloy sleeves upon each of which are stamped three kanji characters, followed by "0.045A" and "20V." Most of the alloy sleeves exhibit surface spotting. The 2 3/8" x 4 1/16" paper inspection tag has a heavily surface spotted grommet to its upper edge, beneath which, to one side, is printed "Form M No.23," "17.2...5.000," three vertical columns of kanji characters, five horizontal rows of kanji numbers beneath a circled "84," and a circular blue inkstamp within which are more characters and "17.12.15." These latter numbers may indicate the seventeenth year of Showa (1942), twelfth month (December), fifteenth day. To the other side are thirteen horizontal rows of kanji characters, which include several inkstamps. "PCM-3," "0.5-0-3V," and a "17," "12," "15" date are among the blue inkstamps. Two circular red inkstamps may also be seen, one with a "17.12.16 " date. The tag is moderately age soiled, but otherwise intact. The testing cables are comprised, to one end, of three black wooden-handled metal probes to the ends of three fabric wrapped wires extending from a rubber wrapped 83" cord. To the other end extend similar wires with metal contacts rising from yellow, red, and black sleeves. The finish to the fabric wrapped wires has stiffened with age, and the contacts are moderately surface spotted. The meter itself has four rubber "feet" to each corner of its otherwise featureless 7 1/4" square base. The base rises 1 1/2" and the meter section atop of it another 1 1/2". Surrounding the raised meter section are several buttons. The twist button to the upper left has a "-" sign to its base. One of the two twist buttons to the upper right has "cd" to its base, the other, a "+" sign. To the lower right are two press buttons, one with the kanji character for "ground" to it, the other with a "+" sign and "cd." To the lower left is another press button, this one with a "-" sign and "cd" to it. The meter section has a 1 1/2" diameter window to its base, through which may be seen the base of the indicator needle. Above this is a screw surrounded by a washer with four kanji characters stamped to it. Above this screw is an arching plate with five lines of kanji characters embossed to it. Among them are the indications that this is model "PCM-3," followed by a stamped serial number, and Showa "17" year, "12" month, indicating that it was made in December of 1942. Following the arch of the plate, and encompassing the top third of this raised section, is the window to the actual dial with its indicator needle. Although its glass is broken into several pieces, all of the pieces are accounted for and included. A paper insert, with an opening to the silvered base, is beneath the indicator needle. Printed along its top are numbers which begin, to the left, with "- 0.4," and end, to the extreme right, with "+ 3.0." The numbers "0," "1.0," "2.0," and "3.0" are printed in red. Underneath the opening in the paper is a double-underlined "V," several kanji characters, an anchor followed by "-1," a repetition of its serial number, and "1000V." Aside from the glass window, the meter is in excellent, and no doubt working, condition. The blackened, pressed cardboard, 7 1/2" tall case has four rubber "feet" to each corner of its 7 3/4" x 8" base. All of its corners are rivetted, and many of the rivets are moderately surface spotted. The top has two metal hinges to its reverse edge and a metal latch to its forward edge. The lower section of the latch is to the upper front of the case, and features "OGK" stamped within an oval above its key lock. The latch has darkened with age. A 1" wide, blackened oilcloth over-the-shoulder strap runs through two rivetted loops to the base and two more to each side. It is adjusted by a single-pronged metal buckle to one of ends mating with one of ten buckling holes to its other end. The strap is very stiff, is noticeably cracked, and is significantly frayed in places. The interior is divided into two sections, the section containing the meter including vertical strips of padding to each of its four sides. Where the interior is relatively clean, the exterior of the case, although structurally sound, exhibits light surface scratching and edge wear. Unique.GRADE *** PRICE $82.00
