J014458 (IJA) BREAD BAG. Standard army issue, olive drab colored canvas haversack, used to carry food and personal effects, whose fold-over flap, which covers its entire front. Bread bag measures approximately 28cm x 20cm. Sewn to the reverse of the top right edge of the bag is a vertical canvas tab which is wrapped around a horizontal metal "ring." Through this ring passes the 4cm wide, doubled canvas shoulder strap, one of whose ends is sewn to the reverse of the top left edge of the bag, while its other ends in a metal adjustment buckle, which the strap doubles back through. The body of the bag widens along its sides as it descends. Two vertical cotton tie tapes, descending from either side of the interior of the fold-over flap, mate with corresponding loops to the forward body of the bag, straps look to be shortened. Descending from the top interior center, where the bag meets the fold-over flap, is another vertical tie tape, which mates with a loop to the top center of the bag itself. The top opening of the bag reveals a large pocket with an interior canvas divider. Nice complete example.
