J012258 (IJA/IJN) "NAMBU" PISTOL HOLSTER. A reddish-brown, rubberized canvas, hard shell holster for the type 14, 8mm Nambu pistol. The holster is 9 3/4" in overall height and has a 7 1/2" wide top that tapers to 2" at its base. The hard shell fold-over flap is attached to its top by a sewn leather hinge, and it has, attached by two blackened alloy rivets to its base, a leather covered spring, to the end of which is a leather tab with a blackened metal stud hole surround to it. This stud hole mates with a blackened metal stud near the base of the body of the holster. The leather covering to the spring has mostly worn away to its obverse. Underneath the flap, the body of the holster has a large pocket sewn to its front, whose smaller fold-over flap tapers to a tab with a stud hole to its end. This tab passes through a horizontal loop sewn to the front of the pocket and unto a blackened metal stud to its base. A small, open-topped vertical pocket is to the right of this larger one. Blackened metal rectangular rings are to the ends of the two tabs sewn near the top of the reverse. A vertical belt loop is sewn between them. To the interior, a leather loop may be seen along its left seam, for a cleaning rod, and a stacked leather divider is sewn beneath where the exterior pocket is positioned. Another similar divider may be seen near its interior base. What appears to be an indiscernible ink stamp is to the interior of the fold-over flap. The holster is typically age and usage soiled, and has noticeable chafe wear to its base.
