J011458 FIRE BRIGADE MEDAL. A 1" wide and 1 1/2" tall, silver washed alloy badge, against whose pebbled obverse is embossed two peacocks, each facing the other and with their wings and tails arching up along either side, above and between which is fixed the brass, three armed symbol used by Home Defense Fire Units. A vertical pin-back device is hinged to the top of its reverse, which has a catch to the base. Embossed to the reverse are four rows of kanji characters, the third reading, from right to left, "Showa era 12th Year 4th Month 6th Day" (6th April, 1937). Age darkening is evident to the recesses of its obverse, but that only serves to highlight its details. The silver wash is more noticeably worn to its reverse.
