J010857 (IJA) EM/NCO'S ISSUE CAN/BOTTLE OPENER, POCKET KNIFE. A combination knife and can opener, with a swiveling suspension loop, whose olive drab painted metal housing is 2 3/4" long and 5/8" wide. The pointed, single edged knife is 1 7/8" long in its extended position. Its unpainted metal exhibits light surface spotting. The hinged can opener to the opposite end is painted the same color as the housing, and is held against it by a flange extending from the suspension loop. What may be a bottle opener is just in from the can opener’s hinge, along the lower part of the housing. To the mid-point along the open, upper part of the housing is a scalloped indentation to facilitate drawing the knife out. Stamped to one side of the housing are encircled characters which no doubt indicate the manufacturer. All of its original paint appears to have been retained, with only light usage wear, although the tip of the can opener is somewhat bent.
